Thank you as always for your continued support. Today, I happened to take a look at the number of new members. While the female membership itself has remained more or less unchanged due to the frequent turnover, the number of male members has increased significantly over the past year or so—from 2,000 to 3,000. Do you have any particular thoughts on the male-to-female member ratio? Or are you considering measures such as limiting the gr...

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here with an answer. We don’t specifically adjust the male-to-female ratio. That said, I think the reason the number of female members has remained fairly steady is that while many women are joining, many are also leaving. The number of offers has increased, but since the total number of women using the service is quite large, I don’t feel that women have necessarily become more likely to receive offers. (That’s just based on my own impression, though.)

Of the several offers I’ve received, about half included more for transportation than the amount listed by the club. I live in the prefecture next to the branch where I’m registered, so my actual travel expenses are fairly high. I’ve been assuming—and appreciating—that they may be taking that into consideration, but do male members actually increase the transportation allowance based on where a woman lives?

💬 Answer from 斉藤さんだぞ♪: I’m Saito, a column writer♪ Location matters, of course, but if a man makes an effort to win you over, it’s entirely possible for him to give you a little extra on top. I think it’s because you’re attractive. As for the other half of the men, there’s nothing particularly wrong with them either. Some men simply have their own personal rules. After that, I think you should choose whoever you like. Not many people are in a position to choose men as freely as you are, though. …

I'm wondering whether to apply for an interview. If a woman fails the interview once, is it impossible for her to apply again? Also, do things like her photos and rank change over time?

💬 Answer from 斉藤さんだぞ♪: This is Saito, the column writer ♪ I wonder why you didn’t pass the interview. The interviewer is carefully judging one thing above all: whether you’re likely to receive offers from men. Was there nothing about you that men would find attractive? Try to take an honest, humble look at yourself. And with enough effort, women can change. I know women who moved up in rank, and they worked incredibly hard—dieting, studying, improving their taste in clothes and lingerie, and le…

Does the Tokyo branch have enough staff? I feel the quality of service is poor. I’m registered with a regional branch, so I use those branches as well, but compared with them, replies to emails from Tokyo are extremely slow. Depending on who responds, the emails are also very brief, and the content of the replies is poor. Despite being so slow to respond, I find myself thinking, “Is the Tokyo branch really in a position to complain abou...

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa answering for the first time in a while. Actually, I felt the same way. When we come in to work in Tokyo in the morning, there are a huge number of emails waiting for us—so many that you wonder, “There are really this many?” The staff who come in that morning process them at an incredible pace. But more emails keep coming in afterward, so it can be difficult to get the number of unprocessed emails down to zero. We have some exceptionally skilled staff, and on days…

If a woman passes the screening, is that decided by the staff member who conducted the interview? Or do several staff members review her photos and other information before making the decision?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa answers: The staff member who conducts the interview decides whether a woman passes the screening. Sometimes they’ll ask for someone else’s opinion if they’re unsure, but basically, it’s up to the staff member who interviewed her. So rather than assuming you’ll be fine once you meet a man, I think it’s better to respond to the interviewer as though they were your date—even if the interviewer is a woman. Incidentally, there have been plenty of women where I thought…

I registered in Osaka about a month ago as a female member. When I signed up, I was told that having my photo posted on the member introduction page would make it easier to receive offers, so I believe I asked them to post it. However, when I checked the Osaka page today, my photo wasn’t there. I’m not particularly young, and I’m not very confident about my looks either, so I started feeling sad, thinking that maybe this is all I’m wort...

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. Only male members can view the member introduction page, so I think there may be some misunderstanding. Is that not the case? The member page features photos taken during the interview. You can also upload photos you take yourself afterward. You can tell whether you’ve officially become a member by whether you received a password. If you received the password, it’s safe to assume that your profile is basically listed on the member page. Is the current policy of making introductions without even disclosing whether someone is married or single really in members’ best interests? Saying it’s to help the club avoid risk isn’t convincing.

💬 Answer from 斉藤さんだぞ♪: I’m Saito, a columnist♪ Um… I’m going to say something that may sound rude. There are countless things you can resolve simply by expressing your own intentions. If you keep blaming the other person for things you’re capable of handling yourself, you’ll end up living a very restricted life. I’m a female member. Is an allowance of 10,000–20,000 yen too low for spending about six hours together on the first meeting, going out for dinner and to a bar?

💬 Answer from 斉藤さんだぞ♪: This is Saito♪. Since the arrangement says the first meeting is intended to last around four hours, it’s only natural that different people will interpret “as a guideline” differently. Since this is ultimately a matter of free choice, why not work on building the resolve to leave after about four hours, according to your own judgment? I feel like I’m gradually starting to understand the concept behind the “high-end matchmaking café.” I’ve come to see it as a viable business model after all. It makes me want to invest! How many male members are you expecting to have?

💬 Answer from 木田(社長): I’m sorry for taking so long to respond. Kida here, answering your question. We initially plan to limit the number of male members to 30. If we can maintain the quality of the service, we’d like to increase that to 50 eventually. I’m a man. I heard that the “high-end dating café” planned for next year and limited to Black members (?) won’t be able to show women’s photos in advance. I thought, “I knew it—then it’s probably not for me.” The reason I’ve used Universe up to now is, essentially, that it allows for “careful screening with a high degree of accuracy” and “saving time.” The cost required in return is hardly significant. 💬 Answer from 木田(社長): Kida, our representative, will answer this one. To be honest, I don’t really understand these complicated issues. But I did realize that adding a question mark at the end makes something look like a question. Could “esthetician” in women’s profiles possibly be a euphemism for something? There seem to be far too many of them…

💬 Answer from 木田(社長): Representative Kida here. Searching the members’ site for “esthetician” brings up around 50 women in Tokyo. 50 out of 2,400—that’s about 2% overall, or 2 out of every 100 women. Our company has around 50 female employees, and only one of them worked as an esthetician in her previous job, so I’d say this figure is probably about right. When searching by keyword, it seems you can’t search by occupation, blood type, zodiac sign, or similar criteria. Please let me know if there’s a way to do this. If not, could you make it possible?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. You can search by occupation, but since the way people enter their jobs isn’t standardized, finding a cabin attendant can be tricky. You may need to search using several different terms, since some people list themselves as “CA,” for example. As you mentioned, blood type and zodiac sign can’t currently be searched. 💬 Answer from 木田(社長): Kida, the director, will answer this one. I’ll take this juicy question myself. Thank you so much for saying that your interview and registration with Mizukami were enjoyable.
