Will this really work out? I don’t trust people who post things that look like recruitment pitches on Twitter and similar platforms.

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): I’ll answer too, Maezawa here. If you feel you can’t trust it, you’re better off not trusting it. Everything comes with risks. Check things for yourself, understand both the risks and the benefits, and then decide what to do. That’s the basic approach. So I think you should gather as much information as possible. > Will it really work out? That depends on what you mean by “work out.” If you mean whether you’ll be able to meet men, more than half of the women who register…

I always enjoy reading the questions here. I’m a woman. I’ve heard that some people register with blurred photos, but does that mean a man who makes an offer can’t clearly see what she looks like until he actually meets her?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here—I’ll answer as well. Just to add: Normally, if you blur the profile photo, men who are considering making an offer can view an unblurred photo. However, if a woman requests that even men seriously considering an offer not be shown anything other than the blurred photo, then: The man who made the offer won’t be able to clearly see what she looks like until he actually meets her. That said, most men will usually decide not to make an offer if they can’t see her…

I’m a male member in my 60s, and I’m enjoying receiving offers through reverse offers. It’s great meeting women I had overlooked before. By the way, I regularly update my profile’s appeal section, but can women see when it was most recently updated? Do women who passed on me once ever get another chance to take a look? Haha

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. > Can women see when a profile was last updated? They can’t see the exact date of the last update, but just like women’s profiles, the listings are sorted with the most recently updated ones first. So, if you change something in your appeal section, your profile will appear higher in search results. Although the last update date isn’t displayed, the change in listing order is apparently designed to serve as a way to draw attention to your profile.

Roughly what percentage of male members are the “gachi-koi” type—those who develop genuine romantic feelings? Of course, estimates based on the impressions of staff and male and female members are perfectly fine. I’m struggling and feeling confused.

I’m a male member. The “You’re Lovely!” campaign is scheduled to run for about another month—will the service go fully live afterward? I don’t really care about the discount campaign, but quite a few women have sent me “You’re Lovely!” reactions, and by the time I get around to making an offer, I can no longer remember who’s who. If the service is going fully live, I’d appreciate it if you could make them searchable.

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. Even after the campaign ends, the “I like you” system will remain in place. As for the search function, it apparently requires considerable resources to implement, so that will also have to wait and see. Regarding this, “I like you” notifications disappear after 30 days. Even if many people use the feature at first, women who don’t receive any reverse offers may eventually stop using it. So it’s unclear whether enough will accumulate to make searching necess…

There seem to be a series of money-saving promotions, such as transportation-cost rebates, a free fifth visit, and discounts on reverse offers. Does this perhaps mean the economy is gradually getting worse?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here with an answer. It seems the economic downturn hasn’t reached Universe yet, and I find myself wondering why business is doing so well. Still, it’s precisely when things are going well that we need to be careful—you never know where a pitfall might be hiding. As for the campaigns: The reverse-offer campaign was originally planned as an Okinawa-only campaign, with the goal of revitalizing Okinawa. However, other branches wanted to run it too, so it was expanded…

Hello. For female members, is staying overnight required when having an adult relationship (intimate)? Staying overnight with someone I’m meeting for the first time seems dangerous.

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. Our club also advises members not to stay overnight on their first meeting. That said, some men may invite you by saying that it’s a matter of free choice. However, the reason the club gives this advice is that staying overnight before trust has been established can be dangerous. While free choice is ultimately up to you, I still recommend not staying overnight from the very first meeting. Sometimes a man may invite you to a distant location. In those cases, …

When I look at men’s profiles, I often see things like “a transactional relationship once a month, like on an app...” The men who have offered to meet me always do dinner → an adult relationship (intimate) → allowance every time, which somehow feels like financially supported dating. I feel like there are very few men who genuinely cherish me and make it feel like a pseudo-romantic relationship—having dinner-only days, days when we go s...

💬 Answer from ジョー・ルビコン: I’m Joe, a columnist and male member. If I may, I’d like to answer your question. Since I can’t look at other male members’ profiles, I was a little surprised to learn that many men write things like, “I’m looking for a once-a-month transactional relationship.” As for me, Joe is basically a hopeless romantic, so my profile is written to look incredibly good on the surface. Even I have to admit, it makes me sound like a really nice guy (笑). But I’m sure there are plenty of f…

If you look young and timid, do people take advantage of you and force you to go to a hotel or somewhere?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. Just to add a clarification: > “Apparently, even if a man offers more money, he can’t make a second offer. Once a woman dislikes him, he’s lost.” There’s no rule saying that a second offer can’t be made. Our staff are expected to do everything they can for our members. So, if a member says, “I’ve lost contact with the woman I previously went on a date with. I’d like to make another offer,” we can arrange it for him. Please note, however, that the usual arra…

I’m worried that people I know might recognize me from my photo, so I can’t bring myself to sign up. Is there a chance they’ll find out?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. There is a chance you could be recognized if someone you know is among the male members. So if you happen to know men who are financially well-off, I think it’s best to be cautious. That said, you can register with a blurred photo, which may reduce the chances of being recognized. However, this will also reduce the number of offers you receive, so it isn’t necessarily the best approach. Still, if you’re worried about the risk, registering with a blurred photo…

What is the interview pass rate for women aged 40 and over?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here—I’ll answer this one too. I don’t think we ever compiled the interview pass rate as data. There are ways to look into it, but it might be a bit of a hassle. So maybe someone who likes crunching numbers will work it out eventually. My gut feeling is that the interview pass rate may be slightly lower. But even if you knew the rate, it would vary from person to person. For example, even if the overall pass rate were 10%, someone who has that certain something wo…

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. Looking only at one customer’s account, it may seem like the woman was at fault. But after reviewing the messages exchanged with her, I found the following: Regarding the part that said: “She spoke to him overly casually and used informal language from the very beginning.” She apologized for using such familiar language, explaining that she felt the man was being rude, which caused her to let her guard down. I’m a man considering joining. When women join, is their occupation verified? If possible, I’d prefer to avoid dating someone who works in the sex industry.

Shouldn’t we do away with submitted photos? Shouldn’t profiles only use photos taken by staff during the interview? Members can upload private photos themselves (that would make lies and exaggerations obvious).

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa answers: I do think banning photos submitted by the women themselves is a good idea, but when a woman asks, “Could you replace it with this photo?” it’s hard to say no. I also feel it would be a shame if she said something like, “If you won’t change it, I’ll leave the club.” So, unless there’s an issue with the photo itself, we generally accept photos provided by the women. Even then, however, we also make sure to post photos taken by our staff. If there are no ph…

I've lost confidence. I've struck out repeatedly with women who are Relationship Type B. But if I'm going to date someone, I feel I'd rather be with a Type B woman than a Type C woman. Am I thinking about this the wrong way…? Or is this simply out of step with the reality of Universe Club?

💬 Answer from ジョー・ルビコン: I’m Joe, a columnist and male member. I’ll leave the detailed, definitive answer to the formidable Papa-katsu gentleman, but I wanted to send you a word of encouragement from Joe. It depends on what you consider a loss, but if you mean not being able to build an ongoing relationship, I think a string of failures is perfectly normal. Please don’t give up. 💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. If that’s something the woman genuinely feels on her own, then it means you’ve helped create a good connection, so I don’t see a problem with it at all. However, if she’s saying things like, “I’d like you even more if you were exclusive with me,” or “I could increase your allowance if you were,” then it feels almost like she’s indirectly asking you to leave the club. > Are men like this difficult for the club to deal with? If members match with someone great, won’t they leave the club? Wouldn’t that be a disadvantage for the club?

💬 Answer from 前澤(スタッフ): Maezawa here. In the short term, it may seem like this puts the club at a disadvantage, but over the long term, it really doesn’t. Even if someone leaves after being matched with a great partner, if they want to use the service again after some time, they’ll almost certainly re-register with Universe, where they can meet other great people.
