I’m Gaku, and I also live in a regional city.
I’ve hardly ever done papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) locally, but when there was someone I really wanted to meet, I’d choose a restaurant near the nightlife district—somewhere people might use for a hostess-club escort dinner.
That way, it doesn’t look quite so unusual to see a young woman walking with an older man, and even if we run into someone I know, they’ll usually just pretend not to notice.
I try to use hotels that mainly cater to tourists, but even then, I make sure we don’t walk through the lobby together.
If we’re going to a love hotel, using my own car is risky, so I rent one instead.
With a taxi, there’s always the chance of being recognized.
Still, I think it’s more enjoyable to travel to major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, or Fukuoka and take my time enjoying good food and drinks without worrying about running into anyone.
