A woman came to our first meeting wearing sneakers. I’m concerned that overly high heels can put a lot of strain on the feet, but I still found it odd to see sneakers with a skirt. Apparently, she wasn’t injured or anything. I understand that they’re comfortable for walking, but since she’s receiving an allowance for transportation, I feel she didn’t necessarily have to wear sneakers… Is it just a matter of personal preference?

Active women probably already appreciate the benefits of sneakers, so practicality may matter more to them than fashion. > Since I’m getting transportation money, I don’t see why I have to wear sneakers… I think there are relatively few men who will pay separately for a taxi. (Please be aware that if the meeting runs past the last train, they are required to cover your transportation home.) That may not be the reason, but women can’t demand transportation money if it isn’t offered. So they usually use public transportation to get to the meeting place. And since most men—apart from a very small number—won’t arrange a car for the trip home either, women often take public transportation back as well. If you’re covering her transportation costs, you could tell her, “I’ll arrange a car for you when you come too, so feel free to wear heels.” That might change her mind.
