Universe’s basic policy is to arrange dinner dates, after which the parties are free to pursue a romantic relationship as they wish. Since going out for a meal and having a period or irregular bleeding aren’t directly causally related, our policy is not to inform the men.
The reason we can’t share that kind of information is that we’re concerned it could potentially violate the law.
For example, a company that used to operate something like a dating message board was arrested. It wasn’t about periods at the time, but I believe the issue may have been that they failed to delete posts where members wrote things like “1” or “2” to indicate the amount.
Even if you don’t explicitly explain what “1” or “2” means, the idea is that those numbers function as code and convey the meaning to the other person.
If so, the same interpretation could potentially be applied to information about periods, and I imagine this is also what our legal counsel has advised us.
That said, many men want to know in advance, and not telling them can sometimes lead to complaints. Many women also want us to tell the men, and our staff would like to share the information as well.
It’s a very difficult issue, but regardless of whether we tell the man, we’d appreciate it if you could contact the staff right away.
By the way, if her period is particularly heavy and even eating is difficult, but she’s still able to go on a normal date, we do tell the man.
Something like:
“She apparently has a particularly difficult period and even eating is hard for her, but she says she’s still able to go on a normal date. What would you like to do?”
A typical man would understand what that means, right? (笑)
