Maezawa here—I’ll answer too.
Despite using the word “going rate,” many people keep quoting the same amount for months on end. I’m concerned that they may simply be taking what men are willing to pay and calling it the “going rate,” even though it isn’t one at all.
(Though if someone says the rate just hasn’t changed, I suppose there’s not much I can say.)
For example, with vegetables—or perhaps stocks would be a better comparison, since the men here don’t buy vegetables—if you said, “That was the price a month ago, so that must be the going rate,” and insisted that someone buy or sell at last month’s price, I doubt anyone would take you seriously.
To begin with, calling it a “market rate” when we’re talking about people is strange. Both sides can only act comfortably once their wishes line up. If someone says, “Your terms are different from the going rate” simply because their preferences don’t match, I feel there’s something fundamentally wrong with that.
If you want to spend a wonderful time with that woman, all you have to do is accommodate what she wants. If you can’t, then you can simply go your separate ways.
There are the man’s wishes and the woman’s wishes. If both are satisfied, I don’t think you need to worry about what the going rate is.
What the man is stating is nothing more than his own preference. He’s simply calling it the going rate without permission.
If stating your own terms results in the meeting ending, it just means your wishes didn’t match. But that doesn’t mean you have to agree to something you’re not comfortable with.
Mr. Epic Papa-katsu Gentleman is someone with enough leeway to write about the going rate while still offering women exactly what they ask for.
In the end, people who understand how to make sure both sides have a good time apparently don’t bring up the going rate in front of women.
