What are the specific differences between people who refer to themselves as “boku” and those who say “ore”? People who use “ore” often sound arrogant, so I don’t really like them.

I’m Kazu, a male member. When I was younger and full of myself, I used to say “ore” for “I.” An ex-gейsha once gently reprimanded me, saying, “You’re very forceful, and it doesn’t come across well. You should think more about the impression your choice of words makes on others.” Since then, I’ve made a point of using “boku” instead.

I’m Aya, a female member. Come to think of it, all of my current papas use “ore” to refer to themselves. They all earn really good money, so somehow, it seems to suit their personalities. The kind papa I was seeing for about two years before that was a submissive “boku.” He was a lovely person.

Akari I might come across as a little edgy when I put it into words, but in reality, I don’t think I’m all that different. In the end, the impression you give depends on the way you speak.

I’m Taro, a male member. Well, “ore” does sound more like speaking from a very personal perspective, while “boku” feels slightly more modest. I switch between them depending on the situation. On this forum, I generally use “boku,” though(笑) For women, I feel the difference between “watashi” and “atashi” is fairly similar. Incidentally, Chihiro Onitsuka’s songs generally use “atashi.”

A sharp-looking, handsome older guy might use “boku,” while a kind, gentle papa in his 60s might use “ore.” They’re both cute in their own contrasting ways. I like both, honestly. I don’t really pay attention to it. I’ve never thought of “ore” as sounding arrogant. By the way, I also like men who use “watashi.” Marika
