When people talk about a “convenient man,” they might mean someone who drives them around, someone who’s good in bed, someone to kill time with, or perhaps someone who might marry them and support them for life. So I don’t find it strange that this could also include an older man who gives them spending money.
And I don’t see anything odd about using a dating club as a place to meet these “convenient men”—in other words, older men who provide spending money.
If she isn’t struggling financially, assuming she must be desperate for men seems like a pretty narrow-minded way of thinking.

I just remembered that when I was around twenty, there were a few mature girls around me who dated older men without receiving any allowance. They’d go out for a slightly nicer meal, spend time together, and occasionally have sex.
Maybe seeing women like that is why I feel the way I do in my answer above.
