Are there Universe affiliates across Japan, or are they only in Tokyo? I was rejected once, but I heard it’s easier to get accepted through an affiliate.

Maezawa, the president of the club, will answer this one as well. > Are Universe affiliates available throughout Japan? Regardless of where the affiliate is based, you can apply from anywhere in Japan. So, for example, you can apply through an affiliate in Tokyo and have your interview in Sapporo or Fukuoka. There isn’t really a concept of “nationwide” when it comes to this. It’s probably best to think of affiliates as simply being somewhere online. If you mean where the people behind the affiliates are located, I imagine many of them are based in the Tokyo metropolitan area. > I was rejected once, but I heard it’s easier to get accepted if you apply through an affiliate. That’s not true. It’s easier to understand if you put yourself in an affiliate’s shoes and think about what you could say to get people to apply through you. For example, if someone said, “I’ve had dinner with the president of Universe, and you’ll have a better chance of being accepted if you apply through me,” wouldn’t you apply through them? Come to think of it, there are also male members who tell women things like, “I’ve made lots of offers,” or “I’ve had dinner with the president.” To be perfectly honest, those are exactly the kinds of people the company wishes would leave as soon as possible. So women can feel free to think, “So what?” to themselves. Someone who is genuinely close to the president probably wouldn’t bring it up themselves. Anyway, getting back to the point: Even if an interview application comes through an affiliate link, the person conducting the interview is set up so that they can’t tell that it came through an affiliate. (Maybe that’s intentional?) So the interviewer decides whether to accept the woman based solely on her, without being influenced by any connections. In other words, applying through an affiliate does not make it easier to get accepted. That said, the affiliate may be able to give you tips on how to improve your chances, so it’s possible that their advice could help you get accepted. However, something that used to happen was that an affiliate would tell a woman who wanted Dating Type A, “You won’t get accepted as Type A, so choose Type C instead.” There are plenty of people who wouldn’t be accepted as Type A but would be accepted as Type C. So technically, that advice may work—but it’s still misrepresenting your dating type. If you’re only comfortable with dinner dates, but choose Dating Type C, everyone ends up unhappy: the woman, the man, and the club. Please don’t do that.

I’m Dai, a male member. To be brutally honest, if you’ve been rejected once, I feel like even if you manage to get in through some workaround, you still won’t receive any offers. Your goal isn’t simply to join the club, right?

I’m Kazu, a male member. They have members all across Japan. If I try to come up with a somewhat far-fetched reason why it might be easier to get accepted, it could be that an affiliate teaches you how to prepare for the interview, allowing you to approach it with more confidence. However, I can also think of some drawbacks, so I’m still skeptical of the idea that applying through an affiliate makes it easier to get in.
