That said, you can usually get a general idea from the way her occupation is described. However, the wording has changed over time, so it’s often misunderstood. One term that used to cause a lot of confusion was “food and beverage.” Some men saw a woman who worked at a ramen shop listed as being in “food and beverage” and mistakenly thought, “That means she works in the adult entertainment industry, right?” No, it doesn’t. Food and beverage means food and beverage. (笑) There was a time when women working at places like hostess clubs were also listed under “food and beverage,” which led to that misunderstanding. So now we’ve changed the wording and no longer use “food and beverage.” It’s a surprisingly difficult issue. Of course, there may also be women working in the adult entertainment industry without telling the club—possibly because they don’t want the staff to tell the men. And some women may not have been working in that industry when they first registered but may have started later after running into financial difficulties. When you consider that, it does seem like a complicated matter. That said, in this particular case, it wasn’t that you disliked the woman—the woman disliked you. So while you may have thought you were the one ending things, in reality, she had already ended things with you. Hopefully, next time you’ll try not to make yourself someone women dislike.
