I’m Saito, your column writer♪
At last, three women around me have contracted COVID, so I’m really starting to feel like it’s getting close to home.
When one of them messaged me saying,
“I may have infected you,”
I honestly wasn’t sure what to do. But it was beyond her control, so I told her to focus on taking care of herself above all else.
Fortunately, both my antigen tests and my health have been fine the whole time.
And we’re still going out for meals together now that she’s recovered.

Did your papa (a male supporter) end up hospitalized?
Maybe you didn’t catch it from him—maybe he was the one who passed it on to you?
I’m sure your papa (a male supporter) feels bad about it while he’s in the hospital. Even though he’s suffering too, he’s probably worried about you. Poor thing. I hope he gets better soon.
He didn’t get close to you intending to infect you, right? Don’t say you’re going to demand compensation—it would make me sad.

Don’t you feel any sympathy for the papa (male supporter) who was hospitalized?
You both entered into papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) knowing that neither of you intended for this to happen and that such risks were part of it, didn’t you?
Compensation for damages…? Then will you pay the person you infected while you were still asymptomatic?
This is such an unbelievably low-level argument that I’m speechless.

In most cases, people meet without knowing they’re infected, so I hope you won’t immediately think about seeking compensation.
If they knew they had COVID-19 and still met you without telling you, I can understand why you’d feel that way.
But if the situation were reversed—if you were the one who infected your papa—would you pay compensation to everyone you infected?
Generally speaking, if you unknowingly pass on something like a cold or the flu, I don’t think anyone brings up compensation.
