Sure, you can demand tens of millions—or even 100 million yen—in damages and take the matter to court.
But if it wasn’t a serious affair, that would be a pretty pointless thing to do.
Even if they sued, wouldn’t most cases end in a settlement for just a fraction of that amount—maybe the equivalent of one or two allowance payments?
An affair that wasn’t serious? I don’t think it’s easy to invest much in the other person under those circumstances. If anything, wouldn’t it just leave you feeling even emptier…?

I think it’s because whether anyone has ever been sued for compensation has nothing to do with your life.
