With Universe, one benefit is the sense of security that comes from the staff keeping members’ identification on file. This discourages members from behaving too inappropriately, and if something does happen, you can take legal action against the other person.
People who feel they can protect themselves without that kind of security—or even enjoy the thrill of it—may have fun using an app as well.
There are also people who can meet women without registering for an app in the first place, so they probably don’t need to sign up for one at all.
So perhaps you could take it a step further and approach women directly, without using any tools.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member who never thought I’d ever try a letter date.
The biggest advantage of a letter date is that the offer can be finalized with just one message from the man to the club.
Once the staff receive the man’s offer, they don’t even need to read his emails, making the process incredibly efficient. (Of course, the man still needs to provide his contact details and other information properly.)
So, if a man makes an offer during the day, the woman may contact him by evening, they can decide on the date that same day, and then get excited discussing their plans. Through those exchanges, they also get a sense of each other’s personality, and begin building trust right away.
I was skeptical about letter dates before trying one, but it was amazing to find myself having an enjoyable, lively exchange just a few hours after making the offer.
The women’s reactions have also been overwhelmingly positive. They say it’s much better than suddenly meeting in person.
By the time they meet for their first date, some couples have exchanged well over a thousand messages, while even the minimum is usually several dozen back-and-forth exchanges. Since written messages remain more easily than online conversations, they can meet with a level of trust that feels almost like they’re already close friends who have known each other for a long time.
Compared with a first date arranged through an online meeting or a regular setting, they must already have built a considerable level of trust.
