Maezawa from the Business Planning Office here as well.
I’ve never heard of someone being rude before even meeting in person. There are cases where someone takes a long time to provide their availability or reply, though. (In those situations, both the staff and the man may get a poor impression, which can ultimately lead to the offer being canceled.)
My guess is that he was unsure which of several women to make the offer to this time and only wanted the staff to check everyone’s availability. That may be what happened here.
In my case, I would tell the woman something like, “I’m only checking your availability for now.” Was nothing like that mentioned?
There are all kinds of men, so I understand why this might bother you, but that’s probably all it was. There’s almost no chance that you did anything wrong.
Occasionally, after making an offer, a man finds out that a woman has experience in the nightlife business and sends a bizarre message like, “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have made you an offer—why didn’t you tell me sooner?” (Even though it’s written in her profile…) That can lead to a cancellation, too. ><
