I’m not sure why you’re limiting this to high school girls, but looking at the passengers as a whole, there do seem to be certain trends. For example, more people may be on Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter, etc. You could probably get a sense of what people are looking at most as times change, but it seems there are easier ways to find out what’s trending without going that far. Also, just because the particular train you happened to be on was like that doesn’t mean other trains are the same. If people-watching is your hobby, I can understand, but otherwise, I’m not sure it’s the best way to gather information.

Since I don’t have a routine of going to the same place every day, I’ve never really had the concept of commuting in the first place. In a car, I can make phone calls, hold meetings, or recline the seat and take a nap. It’s stress-free, and there’s no risk of being mistaken for a groper. If you’re involved in an accident, you can receive a substantial insurance payout, and unless it’s an extremely serious accident, fatal accidents in Tokyo are virtually unheard of when you’re sitting in the second row of the back seat. I feel like I once heard an economist say that waiting and commuting take up one-third of our lives.
