I usually meet women while wearing a suit. What do women pay attention to when looking at a man in a suit? I’d appreciate your opinions so I can improve my look.

I’m Saito♪, a columnist. Basically, I pay attention to things like cleanliness. On the other hand, suits that have been dry-cleaned at every opportunity until they’re overly shiny are a bit of a turnoff. I pay the most attention to shirts. If you get too particular about the thread count and go for something like 200-count fabric, it wrinkles too easily and is difficult to handle. (I used to have mine made with 140-count fabric, but these days I’ve gone down to around 120–100 count.) Above all, though, it comes down to whether the size fits properly. Japanese sizing is unique, and people’s builds vary depending on the sports they’ve played. Buying Italian prêt-à-porter on a whim can actually have the opposite effect. I recommend carefully ordering something made from the fabric up, since there’s a great deal you can learn from the process.

I’m Rula, a male member of UC and the new salon. Here are a few things women have complimented me on about my suits: - When I carry a bag, the hem of my jacket lines up perfectly with the base of my thumb, which gives a polished impression. - A little of my colored shirt—about 1 cm—shows from the suit cuff, and the balance looks good. - The width of my tie matches the width of the suit’s lower collar (the lapel, apparently), which gives a calm, well-put-together look.
