If you receive money or other assets from someone, you won’t owe gift tax as long as the total value received between January 1 and December 31 is no more than ¥1.1 million. (In that case, you don’t need to file a gift tax return.)
Many of the male members of Universe are wealthy, so you’ll probably exceed that amount fairly easily. If so, I think it’s best to report it properly.
