I’m a female member. How do other women manage the allowances they receive? If the amount is substantial, I hesitate to deposit it into my bank account because I’m worried it might make things complicated with taxes. Sorry for the simple question.

This is Saito, the column writer♪ Since the taxes wouldn’t amount to much anyway, why not give it a try? It’s easy—there’s no need to worry so much. Some men even claim their dating club membership fees and expenses as business expenses, but living openly is much less stressful.

Maezawa here. If you receive money or other assets from someone, you won’t owe gift tax as long as the total value received between January 1 and December 31 is no more than ¥1.1 million. (In that case, you don’t need to file a gift tax return.) Many of the male members of Universe are wealthy, so you’ll probably exceed that amount fairly easily. If so, I think it’s best to report it properly.
