People often talk about a “long-term relationship,” but what’s the longest one you’ve had? I’d like to know what it’s really like.

I’m Saito, a columnist♪ I recently parted ways with a woman I’d been seeing for five years. Since she’s getting married, I suppose you could call it “graduating” from the relationship. “We’ll still see each other after you get married, right?” We used to say that as a sort of preface, but in reality, I’m holding back from contacting her so I won’t cause any trouble. (Though I have a feeling there’s a good chance we’ll meet again someday.) So for now, I’ve been making lots of new offers, including through other dating clubs. I’m terrified of how much I’ll be spending this month and next, but it looks like I may be able to meet two or three women. Now I’m waiting to see whether any of them might continue, and whether they’re lucky charms who bring success… After five years, intimacy often fades, and there are plenty of times when I just pay the monthly allowance and say goodbye. I feel put off when someone asks for a monthly arrangement right from the start, but once feelings get involved, I find myself willing to accommodate almost anything.
