There are probably close to ten girls I know who have appeared in AV, though I haven’t actually counted, so I have no idea which one she’s talking about… More importantly, I’m honestly surprised that the questioner has such a Showa-era prejudice against AV. I’m not saying that sarcastically. But isn’t there plenty to question in the idea that it’s fine for a girl to do papa-katsu, but appearing in AV is unacceptable because it’s risky—and that accepting it means you don’t care about girls? That part is sarcasm. Personally, I respect girls’ freedom to make their own decisions. More than anything, I strongly feel that, as a papa-katsu papa, I’m in no position to interfere when I’m not even their actual parent. Who do I think I am? There are also girls who do AV but don’t do papa-katsu, right? I’ve never met one, but couldn’t you say that’s more respectable in a way? Sorry, my wording got pretty harsh. That would probably be my answer, but since it sounds a bit unfriendly, I’ll share what I know about the current AV industry. The fees vary enormously. Even now, girls appearing in DVDs sold on Amazon can earn a seven-figure amount in yen for a single title. I know two people who did. At the lower end, apparently there’s a well-known place in Nagoya that pays around 10,000 yen for filming someone urinating in a toilet. I imagine quite a few papa-katsu girls in Nagoya have done that. That said, some girls apply specifically wanting to do that, only to be told, “You’d be better suited for this,” and then get introduced to a production company in Tokyo, where they appear for a seven-figure fee—up to 5 million yen in the highest case I’ve heard of. So I suppose the two sides are connected through referral commissions, much like the relationship between Universe and smaller clubs affiliated with Patron. Even the idea of cherishing women, especially papa-katsu girls, doesn’t necessarily mean the same thing to everyone. There’s clearly a huge difference between the questioner and me. I’m not saying my stance is the correct one at all. The feeling of “cherishing” someone can be unwanted interference from their perspective. Or they might snap back, “If you care that much, then become my real family.” Everyone’s different. The ideal amount of distance that men—especially papas—have in mind may actually be pretty stressful for women. “Cherishing” someone is surprisingly difficult.
