Hostess bars and clubs are used for entertaining clients, too. Ginza clubs are obviously more expensive, but compared with the cost of a hostess bar, papa-katsu costs more.

I sometimes give that advice too, but papa-katsu at hostess clubs or lounges isn’t necessarily better than using a dating club. Places that attract lots of cute, socially confident girls are highly competitive. And the papas who want to go to lounges are often newly wealthy—still in their 30s and not quite used to the lifestyle yet—so some of them are thinking, “I want to have fun with lots of girls right now, and if I can get away with it, for free…” A friend of mine ended up having an affair with a tall, handsome business owner in his 30s, and it turned into a complete mess. That business owner actually works with my papa. He had hit on me too, so I started thinking that maybe he didn’t really care who it was as long as she seemed attainable… He was way too flirty. Apparently, around Christmas last year, he asked my papa something like, “Is Aya-chan close with Mr. ○○? Do you think it would be okay for me to contact her?” When my papa heard about it, he reportedly told him, “She’s a serious girl, so she wouldn’t suit a flashy guy like you. Just leave her alone.” After that, I stopped getting messages from him. If things go badly, there’s also the risk of rumors being spread, like, “That girl is a bit of a tramp.” It made me realize that this really is a world where you need a certain amount of finesse. I mean, my papa could’ve at least said, “She’s mine, so don’t make a move on her”… I really don’t understand that kind of thing between men. That generous (well-paying) papa of mine goes to both hostess clubs and lounges, but compared with men who only use dating clubs, he definitely expects more from the women.

I used to go every day. These days, I only go when social obligations require it. Then and now, I can’t stand being asked for extra money or women who try to make deals behind the club’s back.
