I’m a woman. When a man asks how much allowance I’d like, would it be okay to ask him, “How much do you usually give? …In that case, I’ll go with that”? I feel awkward stating my desired allowance amount myself.

If you let the gentleman name his amount first, he’ll probably quote a lower figure. If it doesn’t match what you have in mind, though, you’ll have to part ways. You shouldn’t leave everything up to the other person.

I also hated saying, “I’d like this much,” because it felt like putting a price on myself, so I left it up to my papa (a male supporter). I think that’s perfectly fine. You could also view the allowance as the price a man puts on his own desires.
