I earn around ¥700,000 a month. I save ¥200,000 of it. My expenses are high, so ¥200,000 is the most I can save. I live alone, and in addition to my rent, I send about ¥50,000 a month to my family back home for personal reasons. Even after deducting that, I always feel like I should be able to save more... I’m 26 and only have ¥1 million in savings so far, which makes me want to cry. I have bipolar disorder and have been issued a disability certificate, so I don’t think I’ll be able to focus on treatment and take a regular job for the rest of this year. I’d like to increase the number of papas (male supporters), but I’m afraid my existing papas will find out and cut me off if I re-register with Universe, so I can’t bring myself to do it. How can I save more money...?

When you’re manic, do you end up ordering Uber Eats constantly or doing a ton of online shopping? At 26, having only ¥1 million in savings is unfortunately very little. And if papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is your only source of income and you also have a mental illness, it’s only natural to feel even more anxious unless you’ve saved considerably more. If that’s the case, you need to use that anxiety as motivation and save as much as you can. When you say, “I can’t cut back on my spending,” it makes me feel like you’re not truly serious yet. Maybe part of you still thinks, “I’m young, so things will work out somehow.” Advice won’t get through to someone like that, so when you genuinely want to save money, ask again for specific ways to do it.

700,000 − 200,000 − 50,000 = 450,000. I don’t know how much your rent is, but I think you could live on 200,000 yen. It might be a good idea to think about how you can manage on 200,000 yen. If you can live on that amount, you’ll be able to save 450,000 yen every month.
