I feel like a lot of people who get deeply involved in new religions tend to be simple and pure-hearted— for better or worse.
Before they know it, they’ve been brainwashed into becoming part of the sales or recruitment team. But since they believe they’re participating voluntarily, you could say they’re happy in their own way.

When I was 20, a middle school friend asked me to go out with her. When I went along, it turned out to be a meeting for a new religious group.
I was such a naive young girl that I didn’t catch on until they started preaching. Once I realized what was going on, I said I had “become a girl” and used it as an excuse to run home. It brought back memories…
After that, she invited me to my coming-of-age ceremony, too, but I was terrified. I turned her down, saying I already had someone else to go with. Since we lived in the same city, though, we happened to run into each other and she invited me again. Thankfully, some other friends came to my rescue. It was a terrifying experience.
People in new religious groups have all kinds of beliefs, and normally, they’re hard to accept. If you’re willing to join that religion, why not try dating them?
I just hope you don’t suddenly disappear…

You’re better off not doing it.
You’ll end up having to do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) just to make offerings.
At that point, you’ll lose sight of why you’re doing papa-katsu in the first place.
