Are you leaving him on read without telling him that you want to end things?
If you mark the message as read, he may think there’s still a chance—or that you’re simply busy. It sounds like you want to keep the questioner hanging on somehow.
Why not clearly tell him that you won’t be seeing him anymore?
Alternatively, if LINE is the only way he can contact you, blocking him should bring things to an end. Personally, though, I don’t really like ending things that way.

If you’re still in touch because he sends you money, then I don’t see anything wrong with that.
But if receiving money from him no longer makes you feel anything, you should clearly tell him you’re ending things and block him. After that, the payments should stop coming.
