How can a guy who makes an offer but doesn’t book the restaurant possibly run a business? Yesterday, we went to the Hilton, but when we tried to enter the Hilton restaurant, we couldn’t because he hadn’t made a reservation. His excuse was, “I thought we could get in because Christmas was over.” Is he stupid? You’re supposed to make a reservation even when it’s nowhere near Christmas. I just don’t understand how he can think not booking one is an option. Is it really that much trouble?

Normally, it’s better to make a reservation, right? Personally, I don’t make a reservation for the first date arranged through the service because I want to let the woman choose whatever she feels like eating that day. Unless she’s a professional—or simply not very interested in food—I think that would be difficult. With a letter date, we have fun exchanging information in advance, so I usually end up making a reservation. Paper Airplane

I always visit the restaurant at least once before the date and thoroughly check it out. I’m really curious about things like the airflow and how people’s psychology changes depending on where they sit. Going without a reservation is absolutely out of the question. —The Losing Guy

I’m Dai, a male member. I always thought it was standard to make a restaurant reservation and plan the route to the hotel in advance. But judging from women’s surveys and such, there seem to be quite a few men who don’t make restaurant reservations. Anyway, no point complaining—let’s move on to the next one.

I’m Aya, a female member. For a first date, I think making a reservation is a must, but I guess some papas don’t see it that way. It’s not like I’m saying, “You should respect women and make a reservation.” I just think it’s more practical because having a reservation means less stress on the day. Maybe that papa wasn’t actually a business owner after all.

It’s probably just too much hassle. Besides, their own customers are more important to them than some young woman they made an offer to. Wouldn’t it be easier to just cut ties with someone like that instead of coming here to post this barely-a-question full of insults? Have a happy New Year. Marika

I’m in Seattle. That older guy is probably just unlucky and often gets stood up at the last minute. If you can talk somewhere and he gives you a proper allowance, I’d say it’s fine. But if he has a bad attitude or offers too little, you have every right to be mad.
