I often hear about older men asking the women they’re seeing on an ongoing basis to send them a photo, but if a woman in papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) asks, “I want to see your face, ○○,” what is she planning? Is it safe to assume she genuinely likes the man? I’m the kind of pathetic older guy who might get the wrong idea, so please tell me what might be going on psychologically.

I’m Nana Ayase ♡ They may be planning to show it to someone else or use it for something shady. Even if they ask you to send a selfie, it’s probably best not to.

I’m Taro, a male member. I think you’ve got the order backwards. If I felt that a woman genuinely liked me, I might respond by sending her a photo or letting her take one. But if we were still at the stage where I wasn’t sure about her, I’d suspect she was trying to collect my personal information to gain the upper hand in negotiations. I’d be wary even if she asked for my name or birthday. If you want to see her face, just go on a regular date. That’s the basic rule, especially at the beginning. This isn’t a normal romantic relationship, so it starts with physical intimacy. I think it’s only after meeting several times and becoming physically involved that you gradually develop feelings for her.
