These days, I have the most fun when Shi-chan is giving me cooking lessons—or something like that. I’m still not very good, but my repertoire is gradually expanding. Since Shi-chan is from Yamagata, I made Yamagata’s famous “dashi” almost every week this summer. For desserts, I started with pudding—which, according to Shi-chan, even mitochondria can make—and have since added cream puffs and fig tarts to my repertoire. Today, I made a lemon pie first thing in the morning. Shi-chan will be away today and tomorrow, spending Christmas with her boyfriend, but she strictly ordered me to “save some for your teacher.”
Her boyfriend, who’s been stationed away from home, will be returning from Fukui at the end of next February, so my little mama-katsu stint will be coming to an end soon. Until then, though, I should be able to keep enjoying it.

Honestly, they’re the kinds of places you’d normally go with your partner or family.
Movies, theme parks, karaoke, malls, spas, sightseeing, escaping the heat, and so on.
Sometimes we’d just go to Yoshinoya or McDonald’s, too.
Girls who talk a lot about what’s going on in their everyday lives never run out of things to say. But with girls who don’t, it’s mostly just casual small talk. Girls who are used to the club scene are generally the latter—the kind of conversations you don’t need to remember.

We mostly talk about everyday things, work, and investments—nothing too serious. We tend to ramble on, so there isn’t really much substance, haha.
I watch movies once in a while. I think I’ve also gone on a cruise around Yokohama Bay.
Sometimes I go to luxury car test-drive events with a papa who’s into cars. Before COVID, he even took me to a Ferrari owners’ party. These days, most events are smaller to avoid crowds, but I’m still enjoying them just as much.
Other than that, I sometimes have dinner with my papa and one of his employees.

I talk with women about their professional interests, hobbies, and intimate matters.
For example, if a woman works in architecture, we might talk about CAD. If she works in finance and has a financial planner certification, we’ll talk about finance. If she enjoys traveling abroad or has studied overseas, we’ll discuss foreign countries. Sometimes we talk about anime and manga, too.
If a woman has friends with benefits, I might ask how she looks for and chooses them. We also sometimes share stories about unconventional things we’ve each experienced.
At first, we usually go to a restaurant and a hotel. But once we get closer, we might go see a movie, visit a Ginza club if she’s curious, or go shopping for lingerie if she likes it. One woman said she wanted to try the expensive rooms at the love hotel she usually visits with her friend with benefits, so I took her to the most expensive room there.

I’m Fuu, a columnist.
I tailor the conversation to each woman’s interests—anime with anime fans, travel with women who enjoy traveling, and so on.
I generally don’t suggest dates beyond dinner unless she’s interested in them.
With more active women, I’ve been to hot springs, tried zip-lining at an amusement park, toured a brewery, and gone on cruises.
With women who enjoy karaoke, taking them to live-band karaoke has been a hit.
I listen carefully to what they want and try to come up with plans that keep the time commitment as short as possible, don’t feel burdensome, and are still enjoyable.

I’ve heard from people who said they were going to an aquarium, and I also remember receiving feedback from someone who found it exhausting to spend around six hours touring museums, even though the guideline for a first date was about four hours.
I don’t think the places you go are necessarily different just because it’s a dating club, so it may help to think about where you would go on a date with a romantic partner.
The conversation probably isn’t all that different from what you’d have as a couple either. The main difference may simply be that, at first, you’re strangers to each other.
