For those who own luxury designer bags, which brands do you have?

I’m Nana Ayase☆ I only keep things in styles I really like, so I don’t own many. I remember my mother always carrying checks, promissory notes, and her personal seal in her Louis Vuitton bag. I still think Louis Vuitton bags are pretty durable.

I’m Rin, a female member of SALON. I still use a Louis Vuitton bag my mother gave me as a present about ten years ago. I use it almost every day without ever having it repaired, and it’s still holding its shape with no fraying.

I’m Aya, a female member. I occasionally use my mother’s old Dior Boston bag when I travel. It looks like it’s probably around 20 years old, but it’s only slightly lost its shape. Still, suitcases are more convenient, so I don’t use it very often. I’ve never been particularly interested in brands, so the bags I use every day are just inexpensive, unbranded ones. I’m Kazu, a male member. When I was younger, I was even more foolish than I am now, so I’d buy and use whatever bags I liked from Hermès, Vuitton, Gucci, and so on. Leather bags are heavy on their own, and maintaining them is a hassle. These days, I buy and use nylon bags I like, even if they aren’t from a luxury brand. Women who own leather Vuitton bags also tend to send them in for repairs about once a year. The Ginza hostesses who always carry Birkins often own several and rotate them. Once one starts to show wear, they sometimes give it to one of the junior girls. Just because a bag is from a luxury brand doesn’t mean it’s indestructible or immune to losing its shape and developing loose threads. Soft leather is especially prone to scratches. Whether it costs hundreds of thousands of yen or not, I think these bags are meant for people who can use them as bags and accept that they’re ultimately consumable items. As an aside, even nylon bags can wear out quickly. Bags from the diffusion lines of luxury brands—for example, Emporio Armani—didn’t hold up very well either.
