I always thought “ikioji” meant the kind of man you’d see in the Ishihara Gundan.
By that standard, I’m the complete opposite.
I don’t think anyone will ever call me handsome, let alone cool, in my entire life lol.

I’m not sure whether they really were cool back then, but these days they’re just middle-aged men. There are also variants who seem to be playing at being J〇rolamo.
The members of Arashi are already around 40, but they’re not ikeoji. They barely have any middle-aged-man qualities, after all.

A truly handsome, mature man has usually been good-looking since he was young.
But that doesn’t mean every Johnny’s idol becomes a handsome older man as he ages.
And a handsome older man is sophisticated.
He’s not the type to show up at a golf course in a luxury car, dressed head to toe in designer brands, and loudly draw attention to himself everywhere, including the clubhouse. They often have beautiful women with them too, but watching men like that just makes me cringe.
With a truly handsome older man, you might not even be able to tell whether he’s wearing designer clothes. They feel high-quality, but they aren’t obviously covered in luxury brands. Maybe I just don’t recognize them, but the point is, he isn’t showing off.
He always makes reservations, even for lunch. He gets around by car smoothly—and it’s a real heart-fluttering moment when he knows the roads in Tokyo better than I do. He’s also great at escorting you at hotels.
To me, being a handsome older man isn’t just about having a good-looking face!

I’d say someone who looks clean and put-together, has above-average fashion sense, and isn’t carrying extra weight around the middle.
They’re definitely not like the young Johnny’s idols. Young Johnny’s stars have a gender-neutral look, but a middle-aged man with that same look just comes across as an older woman. An attractive older man needs to have a masculine presence.
