Thank you for your question.
> I don’t think he’s attractive at all.
I feel this is slightly different from simply finding someone attractive. It’s not that he thinks she’s good-looking; rather, he seems to want her exclusively and therefore wants to take care of her—even going as far as providing an apartment—and actually follows through.

My arrangement is more of a contracted-mistress type, but I prioritize comfort and safety over being “cool.”
I’ve never thought of myself as cool, and I never forced her into anything either. (I tried to keep things to a small circle… I did tell her that she shouldn’t be with just anyone.) But it feels like things gradually evolved that way.
As I see it, comfort and safety come first for her as a woman, too.
That said, she does need financial support, so I have to guarantee her a fixed amount every month.

Back in the Showa era, keeping a mistress may have been a status symbol of sorts. These days, though, you can use a club to see the woman you want whenever you want, to a certain extent. Having a mistress now just feels burdensome, and it doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I don’t think men who keep someone as a regular partner do so because they think it’s cool. Aren’t you misunderstanding something?
I don’t particularly aspire to that, but women often ask me to cover their rent.
P.S. I was wondering why you brought up the idea of it being “cool.” Was that perhaps a cheesy dad joke playing on “keeping someone” and “cool”? You’re probably better off not trying that one on your dating partners.

I don’t find the idea of “keeping” someone or having a mistress appealing.
The words “girlfriend” and “lover,” however, do appeal to me.
The latter implies freedom—the woman is free to break up with me or leave me.
Games and rock-paper-scissors are fun because you never know whether you’ll win or lose. Romance is enjoyable for the same reason: the other person is free, which means you might lose them.
