I’m a 48-year-old woman. Can I sign up?

I gave an answer similar to Kazu’s a little while ago, but apparently the information hasn’t reached all the staff, so there’s a good chance you’ll still be able to have an interview. The upper age limit didn’t exist before and seems to have been added at some point without much notice. As a result, many staff members still have the old understanding that there is no upper age limit. Also, if you write something like, “Is it okay to apply at my age?” when submitting your application, they may be more likely to tell you that you’re not eligible. So I’d recommend simply applying as usual, acting as though you didn’t notice the age limit. (In fact, you probably asked because you hadn’t noticed it.) So, I think it’s worth applying first. You have nothing to lose.

Nearly half of the women registered are about half the questioner’s age. On the other hand, your age could be considered a rare advantage. I’m not sure how much demand there is, but to a man in his 70s, you’d seem 20 to 30 years younger.

The page says, “Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years old and able to provide valid identification.” It seems that women aged 48 aren’t eligible to register. The page before this one also says, “If you subscribe to the dangerous idea that ‘rules are meant to be broken,’ please refrain from registering.”
