“Menhera” originally meant someone who frequently sought advice about mental health.
It’s said that the term developed from there.
Today, “menhera” doesn’t necessarily refer to someone who is genuinely mentally ill. It usually describes someone who’s lonely, very possessive, and frequently posts about their problems on social media—in other words, a “pay attention to me” type of person, like the kind of questioner who often shows up here.
A girlfriend like that may also be called a “menhera girlfriend.”
But I’m pretty sure the term “menhera” existed independently of papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan).
