Are there any measures short of the ultimate penalty—forced expulsion—for male members who cause problems? For example, limiting their offers, temporarily suspending their browsing access, requiring another interview, raising the arrangement fee (to twice the usual amount, for instance), or refusing to renew their membership?

I’ll answer as Kida, the representative, as well. There isn’t really anything more to add beyond Maezawa’s answer, so this is more of an impression. Being forcibly removed is basically like getting into a fight. I’ve never seen anyone leave calmly, saying, “Oh, I see. Got it!” Instead, it turns into something like: “A company that engages in fraud-like practices such as yours will face decisive action from us. Our corporate lawyer will be in touch. We have connections with senior police officials. I’m sorry, but your company has no future,” and so on. It gets so messy that you’d think they were going through a divorce. And oddly enough, people like that are often extremely friendly with the staff before they’re removed. They’re upbeat and constantly complimenting us: “Universe really is the best, isn’t it?” But the moment a problem arises, they suddenly switch to highly formal language. It’s bizarre. Since things are so black-and-white with us, we can’t bring ourselves to create a step just before forced removal. We do, of course, tell them things like, “I’m sorry, but there won’t be another chance. If we receive the same complaint again, your membership will be terminated.” But wait. We do routinely restrict offers, require another interview, and refuse renewals. We’ve also temporarily suspended profiles several times, saying we would keep them suspended until the facts were clear. Come to think of it, we have been doing that.

Maezawa here. The basic response is “forced removal.” That said, after hearing the circumstances, we may issue a “strict warning” if the explanation is understandable. So I believe the previous action was probably just a strict warning. I think there have been cases where membership renewal was denied, but that simply means timing the forced removal to coincide with the expiration of the membership, so in the end, it’s essentially the same as being forcibly removed. A temporary suspension from viewing the site might also be reasonable, but as far as I know, we haven’t had any measures other than those mentioned above.
