Question

I’d like to ask about the income limit for the new branch. My current annual income is around ¥15 million, so I don’t meet the requirement of earning ¥40 million or more. However, I invest my assets, and although the amount varies somewhat each year depending on the returns, I have approximately ¥80–120 million in additional income. In this case, would credibility still be determined by annual income rather than assets? Also, if I had a document proving my assets, similar to a withholding tax statement, would there be any way for me to join? I would greatly appreciate your response. P.S. You may be wondering whether income from investments should naturally be included in my tax filing. However, I pay taxes overseas, so it does not appear on my Japanese withholding tax statement.

Maezawa here. The annual income requirement for the new location is at least ¥40 million. If you pay taxes overseas, I believe copies of documents such as: - the check issued when you paid the tax authorities, - your credit card statement, - or your tax return could also serve as proof of tax payment. In the United States, it seems you can request a “Transcript,” which is equivalent to a U.S. tax certificate, through the IRS (Internal Revenue Service, United States Department of the Treasury) website. I believe that should work as proof as well. We hadn’t anticipated how to handle documents from overseas, but since they’re simply documents issued outside Japan, I think it should be fine. That said, even if your annual income is at least ¥40 million, admission isn’t guaranteed. There are strict screening criteria, so you’ll need to be prepared for that to some extent.
