I’ve been in a dinner-only relationship for over a year with a Type A woman (now no longer registered). I do want to take things further, but our conversations and her way of thinking are valuable to the growth of my business, so I don’t want to jeopardize what we have. At present, I’m seeing around ten women, including some with intimate relationships, so it’s not that I absolutely have to win her over, but I’m worried I won’t be able to keep acting like a monk forever. Should I regard her as exceptional and keep things dinner-only, or risk getting rejected and try to move on to the next stage? What do you think? Also, if I were to move from Type A to the next stage, how would be the best way to bring it up? Sorry for the virgin-like question.

Maezawa from the CEO’s office will answer as well. > Her conversations and way of thinking have been useful to the growth of my business, and I don’t want to jeopardize our current relationship. If that’s the case, I don’t think you should be the one to make a move. I believe it’s best to leave things as they are. That said, what have you been doing for the past year? I think dating a woman with Dating Type A is all about making her fall for you. So what have you done so far to make her fall for you? If you were satisfied with simply having meals together, then you should continue to stay in that position. It’s better not to get greedy. If that’s not the case, then do everything you can to make her fall for you.

I’m Dai, a male member. Some women say that if things don’t progress within the first two or three meetings, they no longer see themselves having an adult relationship (intimate) with that man. If you’ve already been seeing her as a Type A for a year, she may have settled into viewing your relationship that way. Honestly, it’s pretty difficult to change that dynamic. If you really want to take things further, it may depend on why she’s Type A, so I’d try to look for an opening there.

I’m Mac, a male member. At that point, your only real option is to keep going on dinner dates and patiently wait for an opportunity, like a sniper. She may end up heartbroken and craving someone’s warmth, or she may not. Either is possible. A bad move would be something like putting ¥1 million in front of her and asking, “Would you spend the night with me for this?” That’s the kind of thing a financially well-off man might do, but it would reveal how vulnerable you are because you’ve fallen for her. She’d probably turn you down, then keep seeing you for dinner while finding other ways to get money out of you, such as through gifts. Never underestimate dinner-only PJ girls. They’re professionals at this. They know exactly how to handle a man when he gets worked up without ever giving him what he wants.

I’m Aya, a female member. I don’t think you should make a move toward an adult relationship (intimate). From her perspective, it’s frightening when a papa (a male supporter) who has always been a gentleman suddenly makes a lecherous face and comes on to her. She may end up never wanting to see you again. That said, if you don’t mind never seeing her again, why not give it a try?

I’m in Seattle. You don’t have to bring up being Type A yourself. I may have been invited out once when I was struggling financially.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. This question? It feels as though you’re asking something that was once my own situation. It really hits close to home, so I can picture the questioner’s excited, happy, slightly giddy expression. Based on my experience, if you’re satisfied with someone else, the safest option is to keep things as a dinner-only relationship. But as a man, after a year, you naturally start wondering where things stand and wanting to find out. If you want to ask, but also want to avoid ending the relationship even if the answer is no, try hinting at it gently with something like, “It’s already been a year,” or “Isn’t it about time?” Keep it light—something that could be taken as a joke or a casual probe, while still making her realize that you may actually be looking for an answer. After that, she’ll probably suddenly stop contacting you, and you’ll hardly see each other anymore. That will tell you the answer. However, since she hasn’t completely rejected you, she’ll probably contact you casually after a while to feel things out and see how you’re doing. If you want to continue the dinner-only relationship, you can simply meet her as you did before. > Moving from Type A to the next stage I think the chances of things progressing are higher within the first month or two. That said, unlike men, women sometimes end up marrying someone they initially found physically unacceptable and never saw as a potential romantic partner. So depending on how much respect and trust she has for you, the possibility isn’t zero.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I think it’s best to keep it as dinner only (no intimacy). If she’s helping you with your work, you can think of it as a consulting fee. Sexually harassing a consultant is a risk.
