If a woman passes the screening, is that decided by the staff member who conducted the interview? Or do several staff members review her photos and other information before making the decision?

Maezawa answers: The staff member who conducts the interview decides whether a woman passes the screening. Sometimes they’ll ask for someone else’s opinion if they’re unsure, but basically, it’s up to the staff member who interviewed her. So rather than assuming you’ll be fine once you meet a man, I think it’s better to respond to the interviewer as though they were your date—even if the interviewer is a woman. Incidentally, there have been plenty of women where I thought, “If I had interviewed her, she would’ve passed.” And sometimes, after showing their photos to other staff members, they’d say, “She failed? Couldn’t she have passed?”
