It’s not like I own any designer brands. It’s just that I have a polished, announcer-like style. I’ve told my friends that I don’t have a part-time job.

These days, I think the only people who can afford to live without a part-time job are those whose parents are quite wealthy and send them a substantial allowance.
So if, for example, you say that your parents are ordinary and don’t really send you much money, people may wonder, “Why don’t they have a part-time job?”
They’ll assume there’s no way you could support yourself.
And if you also dress in a polished, announcer-like style, they may wonder where the money for your clothes comes from.
That’s probably when they start thinking you might be doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan).

“Papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)” is a magic phrase.
“ You look like you’re into compensated dating” definitely doesn’t sound like a compliment, does it?
Well, that’s basically what it means.
Though I guess people wouldn’t say it unless you were at least fairly attractive.

Wouldn’t that make you think, “What do you mean, I look like I have a papa? Are you making fun of me?”
They’re basically saying you’d open your legs for anyone as long as you got paid. Maybe it’s because your clothes are flashy and your look is a bit bold?
You never know what female friends are saying behind your back, so it’s better not to take it in the best possible light.
