I’m a male member. A woman I’ve had an adult relationship (intimate) with several times contacted me to say she had contracted an STI and that I might have been infected too, so I should get tested. I waited about two weeks (since it can’t be detected immediately) and got tested, but the result was negative (yay). We always used condoms during our adult relationship (intimate). Later, she sent me a photo of her test result, which was also negative, and messaged me saying she wanted to continue seeing me. My question is: Given the risks, would you stop seeing her and block her? Or, if you liked her, would you reply that you wanted to keep meeting? What would you do? I’d appreciate your advice.

I’m Fuu, a column writer. If it were me, I’d continue the arrangement. On the contrary, I’m grateful that you told me. You seem like a good person. The girl I liked the most—and stayed with the longest—was the one who messaged me: “My boyfriend came down with an STI. Just to be safe, are you okay?”

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here, answering as well. Someone who keeps in proper contact is someone you can feel comfortable with, so I don’t understand ending the relationship for that reason. If you especially like them, I think it would be best to continue seeing them. Also, for the future, you should probably let them know that you were happy they told you properly.

I’m Tetsu, a male member. Anyone who considers STIs absolutely unacceptable might read this and think, “Why worry about something so foolish?” Taking everything into account—the fact that I’m fond of her, that she contacted me to say she had contracted an STI and asked me to get tested, and that she later informed me that her treatment was complete—I feel I might be willing to continue seeing her. That said, I want to be clear about why she contracted an STI and what she plans to do to avoid getting one in the future. Personally, unless I reach the point where I know I wouldn’t regret it even if I became intimate with her again and ended up contracting another STI, I don’t think I can continue. That’s what I mean by “Why worry about something so foolish?”

I’m a male member, Paper Airplane. If I really like a girl, I’ll see her again. But if we’ve only met a few times, choosing not to meet again is also a valid option. It really depends on your style. If you’re okay with seeing multiple partners, it shouldn’t matter. But if you’re not comfortable with that, it might be better to pass. The fact that she’s already done it once suggests there may be a higher risk. If you’re hesitating, it may be best to move on to the next woman.

I’m Kazu, a male member. A woman who lets me know is taking proper precautions, so if I like her, I’ll continue seeing her. In fact, it can even be one of the reasons I like her. Since you’ve had an adult relationship (intimate) several times, I assume you like this woman. That said, if a woman told me she’d contracted an STD as frequently as once every few months, I’d consider her high-risk and would probably end things.
