Good evening. I sometimes see women described online as being “all about money.” What makes people feel that way about them?

Our staff member, Dan, would also like to weigh in. This is just my personal impression, but I tend to get that impression when someone’s spending seems high compared with their income, or when they appear to have strong material desires. That said, the reason women do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is ultimately money, so honestly, I feel that this is somewhat unavoidable.

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here. I’ll answer this one too. Thanks for your question. I think people’s perceptions differ when it comes to this, and it also depends on how much the man likes the woman. For example, if she says she wants a ¥1 million bag, but she’s always been openly affectionate, accommodates all of the man’s requests at the hotel, and he absolutely adores her, I don’t think he’d see her as being overly focused on money. However, if they’ve only met twice, she’s said things like “No, I’m not comfortable with that” at the hotel, and she hasn’t really shown much affection—while the man thinks she’s a nice woman and would like to continue seeing her, but isn’t deeply invested yet—then simply saying, “I want a ¥50,000 bag,” could make her seem very money-minded. When you look at it that way, the key seems to be how clearly you can show that you like the other person, and whether they feel they don’t want to let you go.

I’m in Seattle. “Dollar-dollar girls”—lol. I’m money-minded too and managed to build up my assets. It’s important to camouflage yourself well. Everyone should feel free to be money-minded.

I’m Taro, a male member. It’s easier to spot them online, isn’t it? She used to ask questions here from time to time, too, though I haven’t seen her lately. In real life, I’d say: - A woman who said, “My birthday’s this month,” the last time you met, then said the exact same thing when you met again a month later. (A “dog-year” girl.) - A woman who arrives an hour late to a restaurant meeting, then, after a brief meal, says she has to leave because she’s busy—but still asks for the full pay-per-meeting allowance. (A collection girl.) - A woman who says, “I’m struggling this month, so could you lend me some money? Here’s where you can transfer it,” despite not even having met you yet. (A wire-transfer scam girl.) - A woman who asks for $2,000 in allowance when you discuss the terms at the first meeting. (Not a “money-money” girl, but a “dollar-dollar” girl. Not Dolly Parton.) Something like that, I guess. That said, I think people tend to show more of a distinct character online.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I’ve only met one in person myself. I mostly see them online, so I think women who are overly focused on money are probably good at disguising it in real life. Maybe it’s when you feel they’re looking down on their partner.
