I met a woman who was totally my type, but she was on her phone the whole time and didn’t seem very interested in me. Girls like that probably use their phones even when they’re having dinner with friends, right? So can I take it to mean that’s just normal for her and she doesn’t necessarily dislike me? Please help! I’m an old guy!

I’m Maezawa from the president’s office, and I’ll answer this one too. Thanks for your question. Even if a woman usually uses her phone a lot, I don’t think many women stay on it constantly. Usually, they’ll explain things like: “I just need to reply to something,” or “It’s from ○○, so I’ll answer it first.” If she’s on her phone the entire time, it probably means she doesn’t dislike you, but she isn’t particularly interested in you either. Or perhaps she feels she has no choice because she’s doing it for the money. You shouldn’t get angry about it, but I think you’d be better off thinking about how to make her interested in you.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. Of course you want someone who’s totally your type physically, with great conversation and a warm, considerate way of being there for you. There’s no fun in settling. Though, of course, the girl can say the same about her partner…

I’m Tetsu, a male member. That’s a classic situation with women. I’ve experienced it many times myself. Personally, I’d rather not get involved with someone who starts using her phone while talking to me, so at that point, I consider it a definite dealbreaker. With her sitting right in front of you, it might be funny to send her a LINE message.

I’m Taro, a male member. Personally, that would be a no-go for me. Some women may talk that way as part of their normal conversation, but I know there are also young women who don’t, and I definitely prefer the latter. That said, if she’s exactly your type and you want to get intimate with her, why not see how things go? Even if it ultimately ends up being nothing more than a physical encounter, it’s not disrespectful as long as you give her the agreed-upon allowance—and I think you’d be reasonably satisfied too.

I’m Meg, a female member. It probably doesn’t mean they dislike you, but seeing that isn’t exactly a pleasant feeling, is it?

I’m だて◎ゆめ, a male member. > Girls like this probably use their phones even when they’re having dinner with friends, right? People these days spend quite a lot of time on their phones. It’s hard to tell whether they’re simply more interested in their phone, or whether they’re on it because they’re not interested in the man they’re with. On the other hand, women who are 100% interested in a man they’ve only just met can feel a little intimidating, depending on how you look at it. At first, it might be better to keep a comfortable distance, like someone who’s a little shy. You can usually tell after meeting two or three times, though(笑).

This is Seattle. If you’re good at keeping the conversation flowing → she’ll act like herself. If you tend to be quiet → she’ll be bored and lose interest, thinking, “I just want to get paid and leave.” As a man, try using your phone too and bringing up the app you met on.

I’m Kazu, a male member. Yes, she’s probably just the type of woman who lives that way. I’m surprised there are women like that at Universe Club too. She’s likely just as indifferent to her papas as usual, and doesn’t particularly dislike you.
