My papa (a male supporter) goes through my bag and wallet without permission when I’m not around, like while I’m taking a shower. It makes me so angry—can you suggest a good way to get back at him? I don’t want to simply cut ties; I want to get revenge twice as hard before saying goodbye.

Maezawa from the CEO’s Office here. Thank you for your question. First, I think it would be best to gather evidence. Place your bag near the bathroom, then set up a camera at an angle that captures only the area around the bag, and record them rummaging through it. Hidden-camera filming is generally prohibited, but if you’re trying to obtain evidence that someone went through your bag, and the camera is positioned so that it doesn’t capture the room—only the area around the bag—I believe it would be treated similarly to a security camera rather than as illicit filming. There’s no point confronting them on the spot, and it could be frightening. You should think later about what to do with the video. You could send it to their company if you know where they work, report them to the police on suspicion of theft, or upload it online. There are various options to consider. However, if you make the wrong move, you could end up becoming the one committing a crime. So, at a later dinner, I think it would be best to loudly say something like, “I can’t believe someone would look through another person’s bag,” and then change the subject halfway through. After that, you could send the club feedback, attaching the video and stating that this person may be involved in theft. However, even if you’re angry, please don’t write that you want them removed from the club. The moment you say that, people may start viewing the woman in a worse light. Try to keep your emotions in check and report only the facts.

I’m in Seattle. Until I’ve built up a level of trust, I keep my belongings near the bathroom. I’ve had money taken from me once. I confronted them, we settled things, and now we’re friends. Gather evidence and demand compensation. Money comes first. Stay calm rather than yelling.

I’m Kazu, a male club member. Ugh, that’s disgusting. I think you should report him to the club. The more you try to get revenge, the greater the risk to yourself, so it’s probably best to keep it reasonable and leave it at that. It’s a hassle having people hold a grudge against you.

I’m Taro, a male member. For a moment, I thought setting a booby trap in my bag might be a good idea. But if it injured her, it could turn into a criminal case, and if it didn’t, there’d be a risk of her getting angry and retaliating—so it could actually be more dangerous. I think the smartest approach is to play along and secretly record the incident on your phone. Then, once you’ve safely parted ways, report it to the club.
