I don’t think it’s quite the same as petting a pet, but when you’re asked what it actually means, it can be hard to explain.
Maybe it’s closer to feeling healed when you’re with someone who makes you want to help and look after them simply by being around them?

I think there are many different forms of comfort. Sometimes it’s the feeling of being soothed by stroking an animal; other times, it’s the pleasantness of a conversation, the sound of an incoming email, her smile when she arrives at the meeting place, or the lively tone of her voice on the phone. The list goes on and on.
