Does sex with someone you love become rougher, or does it stay gentle and tender? I feel like our once-gentle, affectionate sex has been getting rougher. I’m worried whether it’s a sign that our love is deepening or the opposite. Why is this happening?

Maezawa from the president’s office here—I’ll answer this one too. Thanks for your question. If a woman doesn’t seem to be feeling much, a man may assume she isn’t getting enough stimulation and end up using too much force. In that case, he won’t know unless you clearly tell him it hurts, so I think you should speak up.

Yokoyama from the staff here, answering as well. I’m not very experienced when it comes to understanding rough sex, but I personally would never be rough. It may be a matter of preference, but I believe sex should be about both people feeling good. So, as everyone has said, reactions like “That hurts a little” or “I’m scared” may be effective.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I don’t think whether you like someone has anything to do with how rough the sex is. I think it depends on whether they’re someone you feel you need to be considerate toward, or someone you can truly let your guard down around. It has nothing to do with love. For me, someone I feel I need to be considerate toward would be a dating partner, while someone I don’t feel that way toward would be a sex worker or another woman in the business. That’s why I’m gentle with my dating partners. However, when I’m extremely tired and I’m with a dating partner I feel completely comfortable with, I sometimes ask, “Sorry, I’m really tired, so would it be okay if I’m a little rough today?” and then act more roughly.

I’m Taro, a male member. When my feelings start to fade, I may become less attentive, but I don’t think I’d become rough or violent. Maybe he’s getting more intense because he thinks he’s doing you a favor—or perhaps he’s discovered a taste for rough play. What if you try reacting during the encounter by saying things like, “That hurts a little” or “I’m scared”?

I’m Hikoki, a male member. Men want the women they’re with to feel comfortable, happy, and satisfied, so it’s a little sad if her satisfaction isn’t increasing. If he’s gone from being gentle to rough, he may be losing interest. Perhaps he can no longer see how you’re reacting or gauge how you’re feeling.

I’m Tetsu, a male member. I think the way people have sex can change over time, becoming either rougher or more gentle as they grow more comfortable with each other. Everyone has different preferences—some prefer being passive, while others like taking the lead. Many people hold back and match their partner’s pace when having sex for the first time, because they’re afraid that pushing their own preferences too strongly will turn the other person off and lead to a breakup. As the relationship gets longer, you become comfortable enough not to worry so much about being considerate in that way, so I think people start letting out the sexual desires they had been holding back. Thinking that someone doesn’t love you simply because the sex is rough is too simplistic. Rough sex without love is rape.

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. I always try to treat anyone I see with kindness and respect. As for becoming rougher, I think Mac’s analysis is spot-on.
