I previously saw a question saying, “I receive an allowance of 80,000 yen or more,” but I’ve also met two women who said, “I’d like 100,000 yen.” As we talked, the conversation turned to how that 100,000 yen was broken down: apparently, 50,000 yen was a referral fee and 50,000 yen was the allowance. The woman’s reasoning seemed to be, “If you’re introduced to a woman through a club, you’d pay a referral fee each time, right?” I can kind of see the logic, but I’m not sure I agree, so I gave her transportation money and we went our separate ways. My question is: was this just an excuse because I wasn’t her type and she wanted to turn me down? Are there actually people who are dating under these terms? Or is it simply her own interpretation? I’d appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you for your question. Hatta from our Tokyo team will answer as well. Having met all kinds of women, I’ve encountered some surprisingly demanding views, such as, “Around 100,000 yen is standard, right?” We sometimes ask about their monthly goals, but there have also been women who mistakenly interpreted that as pay-per-meeting. She may have simply been very demanding, or perhaps she misspoke due to a misunderstanding.

I’m in Seattle. If she already has five papas, plenty of offers, and is getting 8, you’d have to offer 10 to take her spot. That’s capitalism for you.

I’m Taro, a male member. It sounds like you’re asking for an itemized estimate and negotiating by saying, “I don’t need this, so lower the price by that amount,” haha. She hasn’t rejected you just because she stated her terms. That said, she probably has no intention of lowering them. There’s no point in trying to dig deeper or reason it out—you won’t get anything more from her. As she said, an allowance of 10 and a 5 introduction fee plus a 5 allowance come to the same total. In that case, wouldn’t it be better to pay the introduction fee and keep looking for someone whose terms work for you?

I’m だて◎ゆめ, a male member. I know it’s a difficult situation, but I’ve never personally met anyone like that. As for the breakdown, she may have been coached by someone, so I really can’t say. In the end, you should only pursue the relationship if you’re comfortable with the arrangement. If she isn’t satisfied with that amount, she simply doesn’t have to go through with it. As for the reason: Don’t overthink it!

I’m Tetsu, a male member. Why go looking for things to worry about? For the person asking, only the total amount matters—the breakdown isn’t the issue. It’s best not to ask unnecessary questions. Since you turned her down, this meeting is already over. There’s no point speculating about the reason either, because you won’t know her true intentions unless you ask her directly. That’s all.

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here. Thanks for your question. The fact that you asked for a breakdown already means you’re completely missing the point. There’s no point in asking for that. What exactly do you mean by a “breakdown”? Would you have been satisfied if she had said: “My right hand is worth 3, my left hand is worth 1, my face is worth 3, my hair is worth 1, my breasts are worth 3, and that area is worth 4. Oh, that adds up to 15, but I’ll give you a special discount and accept 10”? You wouldn’t have been satisfied, would you? You’d probably lecture her about those valuations next. Something like, “What do you mean, my hand is worth 3?” And before long, you’d probably start saying things like, “Do you realize how hard I had to work to earn this money?” Women want 10. If you can’t offer 10, then just part ways after dinner. I think you should seriously consider whether you actually want to give that particular woman 10. Still, asking for a breakdown… Hehe.
