I’m a woman in my 60s, not sure what to do.
Haha… I’ve had to wait before, too.
But there was a partition, so it didn’t bother me at all.
We had a great time looking through a brochure for a spa treatment I was thinking of having her try on our next date… haha.

I’m Hikōki, a male member who’s a bit restless and often mistaken for being in his 30s.
So, on first meetings, I’ve sometimes waited one or two hours at popular hotels and an hour at popular restaurants with long lines...
In both cases, we were able to have quiet, intimate conversations while we waited, so I actually enjoyed it. It made the wait worthwhile.

I’ve had a similar experience once too. The atmosphere became incredibly awkward. Luckily, the second place we went happened to have a table available, so we managed to avoid a disaster.
Ever since then, I plan our dates with the possibility that everywhere might be fully booked.

Actually, we’ve had that happen too.
If I remember correctly, it was before COVID, but I just waited there as if nothing was wrong.
There was a partition between the other couple and us, so we couldn’t see them. But since it was unusual, the two of us were really curious and strained to hear what they were talking about—though we couldn’t hear a thing.
So then I started wondering if they weren’t talking at all and were secretly getting up to something, which made me laugh(笑)
I haven’t had to wait in a waiting area since COVID started, but the love hotel I sometimes visit is, in a way, a place where you can avoid crowds, and it always seems busy—like it hasn’t been affected by COVID at all.
Besides, since everyone’s wearing masks now, it’s totally fine(笑)

I’ve waited before—after confirming with her first, of course.
Since you’re inviting her with money rather than trying to create a good romantic mood, I think she’ll generally be more understanding than usual.
That said, if you’re going to wait, it’s better to wait together. Going in first and making her come alone could make her feel like you’re treating her like a sex worker, which would probably put her off.

Thanks for your question.
Outside of busy periods like New Year’s, Golden Week, and Obon, there are usually hotels in the area with vacant rooms.
They probably won’t be the nicest hotels, so they may not be places you’d normally want to go. But in case the hotel you visit is full, I recommend researching in advance which nearby hotels are likely to have rooms available.
Also, don’t limit yourself to love hotels. Sometimes regular hotels have vacancies, so it may be worth calling around. Try not to panic—just call a few of those hotels.
If you decide to wait for a room to become available, some hotels have waiting areas that are partitioned off and not easily visible to other guests. You could look for those hotels in advance and wait there.
As with your question, when you suddenly find yourself in that situation, it’s easy to panic.
So, like the “Cautious Hero,” you might want to become a “what-if ghost” and prepare for every possibility:
The hotel we’re planning to visit might be full.
The backup hotel might be full too.
The regular city hotels might also be full.
→ We’ll take a taxi to another area.
We might not be able to find a taxi.
→ We’ll be ready to call one through an app—but what if the app happens to be unavailable?
And so on…
Basically, think through every possible “what if” and prepare for it in advance.
Then say:
“Lady Perfectly—everything is fully prepared!”
And head out on your date. That’s probably the best approach.

I’m Flag Maker, a column writer.
I’ve had a similar experience. Still, I’d be more worried about the atmosphere of simply parting ways without anything happening.
Things may be a little different because of COVID, but if it were me, I’d probably add a little extra to the allowance and spend an hour or so at Starbucks or karaoke.

I’m Kazu, a male member.
To avoid situations like that, I reserve the hotel and check in before even the first date. So I’ve never kept a woman waiting for a restaurant or hotel.
