Sorry for the silly question, but a gentleman from Kansai whom I recently met a few times after receiving an offer—and who resembles a grasshopper—told me that, on a scale of 1 to 10, he’d rate my looks a 7.

He wasn’t really complimenting you, was he? Maybe he was simply sharing his impression.
I can sense the questioner’s intense frustration coming through in Kirigirisu’s post. At the same time, I also get the feeling that it’s not quite serious enough to report as a complaint, which leaves things feeling unresolved.
It’s a silly but peaceful question. I love questions like this.

Sometimes it’s more enjoyable to look at things positively.
In this case, it may be best to assume that this person had only ever given someone a maximum of 6 points before, so you received his highest-ever score: 7.
That said, I could understand it if he said you were a 10 out of 10, but telling someone they’re a 7 is rather baffling.
