There are far too many people lying about their age on apps. If you grill them about their zodiac sign and all sorts of other details, they eventually trip themselves up, which can be fun to tease them about, lol.

I’m Tetsu, a male member. I completely understand wanting to hide your true self at first. I once met a woman who had lied about her age. As we talked about university, her career, and life after retirement, I realized she was actually four or five years older than she claimed, but I kept quiet and went along with it. Eventually, she worked up the courage to confess that she’d been lying about her age, so I simply said, “I had a feeling, since some of the details didn’t quite add up.” After that, we became much closer. I trust that the club thoroughly verifies everyone’s identity, but there are plenty of things—such as someone’s occupation, hobbies, or figure—that even the club can’t fully verify. So even if someone lied about their age, wouldn’t it be enough to say something like, “You managed to get through the interview? Impressive, impressive”? The person who suffers from lying is the one who told the lie, after all.

I’m a male member who goes by “Paper Airplane.” Both men and women probably shave about ten years off their age. Rock-paper-scissors and sports are exciting because you never know whether you’ll win or lose. There are plenty of things it’s better for both sides not to know.

Maezawa from the president’s office here. Thank you for your question. At Universe, we speak with people face-to-face, so we carefully verify that the ID actually belongs to them. However, if someone brought in their older sister’s ID, for example, there is a chance we might not be able to tell. After all, everyone looks somewhat different in their driver’s license photo compared with their actual appearance. We could tell if they were a completely different person, but if they were sisters and looked alike, it might be difficult. That said, we’ve never received feedback about anything like this happening in the past, so I think it’s safe to say that the verification is almost 100% reliable. In fact, there was a man in the past who brought in a forged driver’s license when applying for membership. A staff member spotted it, and he was refused membership and placed on our blacklist, meaning he will not be accepted in the future either. I was impressed that the staff managed to recognize an almost perfectly forged license as fake. Perhaps they noticed something from the man’s attitude. Looking at the license alone, the differences were so subtle that I remember wondering how anyone could make one so remarkably similar. With that in mind, men may actually be the more suspicious ones.

I’m Kazu, a male member. It’s not as though you’ve repeatedly encountered cases where the age listed on the profile of someone you made an offer to through Universe Club was incorrect. So why are you implying that they may not be checking properly, and then pressing the point further? If you had asked something like: “I’m a man considering joining. I’m very particular about women’s ages, so I’m concerned about whether the ages listed on their profiles are accurate. If the document doesn’t include a photograph, the woman apparently has to provide additional documentation. I’ve heard that women working in the entertainment industry may sometimes be registered using their “entertainment age.” Personally, I’ve never really cared about age as long as the person is an adult, so it’s never been something I paid attention to. People do have all kinds of preferences, I suppose.
