I’m a female member. Am I the only one who wishes her profile could be hidden from men she’s already been on a date with? It feels awkward knowing they might see me uploading photos or updating my comments and think, “So she’s still looking for other men…”

Maezawa from the President’s Office here. Thank you for your question. About five years ago, there was a period when our staff handled things that way somewhat informally. I imagine it was probably because many women requested it, or because the staff themselves felt there was no point in displaying someone who would never be offered another date after already receiving an offer once. As for why we stopped doing that, about four years ago, the president may have received a complaint and asked, “Why is it being handled this way?” We then decided to stop doing it, and that’s how things have remained ever since. There are requests from women, but there are also requests from men. So that is the current internal rule, although internal rules may change again in the future. Even now, however, there are women for whom this is actually being done. That’s because they ask their registered branch after every date. So please consult your registered branch as well. I’m Tetsu, a male member. I understand how you feel. But even if you hide your profile, I don’t think it will solve the problem. Some male members may become even more suspicious, wondering whether you’re looking for someone else because they can no longer see your profile. Just as you’re looking for other men, men are probably looking for other women—possibly even more actively. It may be best to think of it as a case of “what’s fair is fair” and accept that both sides are doing the same thing.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I think it would be best to submit your request to the branch office. I understand that it can feel awkward, since only a small number of women regularly upload photos or update their comments. Personally, though, I’d be happy if they kept displaying them. For example, when going on a second or subsequent date with a woman who isn’t very fond of LINE, I sometimes refer back to her profile to remember what kind of food she likes.
