About a woman I’ve met several times and gotten to know fairly well: she says she doesn’t understand what it feels like to orgasm during sex. She’s in her mid-20s and says she’s never masturbated or done anything like that before (although she says she likes sex). I’m thinking of teaching her how to masturbate and so on, but I’ve never taught anyone before and don’t know what to do or how to go about it. What steps should I take to teach her? (Is it too late to start masturbating in your 20s?) I’d appreciate your advice.

Universe Tokyo, Mamiya here. I think she’s probably a fairly typical woman. I suspect the most common type is someone who has never masturbated, likes sex, but has never had an orgasm. Most ordinary women probably feel that they shouldn’t—or aren’t allowed to—say or even think things like, “I masturbate” or “I want to orgasm.” I’d be careful about pushing the subject too much. If she doesn’t have the desire to explore herself, it may start to feel like she’s being made to do something, which could make things awkward for both of you. So even if you think it’s great, be careful about recommending it.

I’m Hikōki, a male member. Apparently, women can get aroused, feel pleasure, and even enjoy something like masturbation simply through fantasies or daydreams, without using their hands or any toys. So if she’s never even done that, she may not be interested… Also, even if a woman says she likes sex, women generally don’t seek it out to the point of paying someone for it the way men do. It may be best to assume that women are interested in sex only one-thousandth, one-millionth—or probably even less—than men are.

I’m Maezawa from the President’s Office, and I’ll answer this one too. Thanks for your question. Unless she specifically told you that she wants to be able to climax, you might just end up interfering unnecessarily, so I think it’s important to communicate with her about it. Buying her some toys could be a good idea, but if you feel like you’re buying them for her sake, that could create a gap between you. It’s probably best to keep in mind that you’re buying them because it’s your own hobby.
