I think it’s perfectly fine to show how much you like him as much as you want.
The problem is when you add something resembling possessiveness, or say that you don’t need any money.
A man who’s dating you on the understanding that money is involved might think, “This could be getting a little dangerous. Maybe I should end things while I can.”
So I think you should maintain the stance that you do like him, but that money is still part of the arrangement.
That way, he’ll be happy to hear you say you like him, but he’ll also start wondering, “Is she running short on money?” or “Does she really like me now?”—and come up with all kinds of theories on his own.
Be careful not to become a “convenient woman” for him.
